Located North East of Kota Kinabalu about 100 km away, lays the quaint little village of Tamau, Kota Belud. Here, bordered between the paddy fields mangrove forest exists one of the world’s most endangered species of primates…the Proboscis Monkey or Nasalis Larvatus. This endearing monkey with its protruding large noses can be found amidst the mangrove trees foraging, resting and feeding. They are the most aquatic of the primates and even have webbed feet.
Get up close and personal with these monkeys when you enjoy a cruise along the serene mangrove banks and have a peak into their daily eating routine! Don’t forget to bring a camera for a picture postcard shot! Other mangrove wildlife that you might spot are the cheeky long-tailed macaques, river otters, kingfishers, eagles and more.
Upon arrival at the Tamau Jetty, you will be served local cakes and refreshments followed by the hour-long river cruise. Proceed back to the jetty for dinner and enjoy a home-made local meal. Proceed to a special location located 20 minutes away by van for a spectacular display of fire-flies which will leave you breathless with special magical memories.
Depart from Kota Kinabalu for Kota Belud, 1 hour 30 minutes.
Arrive at Tamau and enjoy light refreshment before the mangrove river cruise.
Picture-taking and other activities are also available while waiting for the other guests to arrive.
Proceed for tour with guide. Proboscis Monkey might be spotted most of the time in the trees feeding on young leaves, shoots, sour fruits and seeds. Among others, you will have the opportunity to observe Macaque monkey, the rare Silver Languor and variety of birds. You may also witness sunset at the village beach.
Malaysian buffet dinner is served.
Continue tour with viewing of fireflies. Catch the spectacular swarm of fireflies decorating the mangrove tree.
Head back to Kota Kinabalu. END OF TOUR.
